Joachim Blüher

studied art history and archaeology in Mainz, Vienna, and Rome, earning his doctorate with a dissertation on “The Former St. Martin’s Rotunda: Heavenly Jerusalem in Twelfth-Century Bonn”.

During his studies he worked as a restorer in the field of archaeology, for example, at the “State Commission for Pre- and Early History” in Mainz, the “Centre de restauration Vienne Gabriel Chapotat,” and at the papal palace in Avignon.

Moreover, he was photographer and director of numerous exhibitions for international jewelry design. As a gallerist, initially at Galerie Werner in Cologne and New York, later as an independent gallery owner in Cologne, he has established many contacts in the international art scene since 1989.

Since September 2002 Joachim Blüher has been director of the German Academy “Villa Massimo” in Rome.
